Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Courses

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction is the seminal 8-week curriculum first  developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center’s Center for Mindfulness.  The class uses meditation, yoga and inquiry as a way of training people to relate differently to stresses in their lives and in fact, relate differently to each moment of their lives .  Click here for more information about MBSR.

MBSR Alumni


A few times per year four to six week classes are offered which are suitable for graduates of the 8-week MBSR class.  These classes focus one ways of bringing mindfulness practices directly into all aspects of our daily lives—in relationships, work environment, family life, etc.   These classes are a wonderful way to revitalize or remain connected to one’s meditation practice.


Buddhism and Meditation

Jon offers classes and talks that explore the Buddha's teachings of Dharma. These classes are not academic but rather allow time for in-depth study of practical application of the core 2500 year old Buddhist teachings and how the relate to living in the 21st Century. Jon is affiliated primarily with the Insight Meditation Community and teaches regularly at the New York Insight Meditation Center, as well as at other centers as a guest teacher.

On-Line Sitting Group 

and Drop Ins

Please note this group will begin again on September 16.  

Starting  April 15, 2018, Jon will be offering a weekly on-line sitting group which will be held every Sunday evening from 7:00-8:00.  It will include a 25 minute meditation, a short talk, q/a and a final sit.  This will be offered on the basis of generosity with no set fee.  We will use the ZOOM online platform which is simple to use.  If you are interested in joining this group, please email jon@mindfulnessnyc.net

Retreats and
Practice Days

Days of concentrated practice offer an opportunity to energize and expand one's practice. Jon offers both single day (primarily at NY Insight) and more extended residential retreats which provide a supportive environment for continuity of practice. Day-long retreats offered as part of the MBSR 8-Week program are open to MBSR Alumni and anyone with meditation experience (with prior approval).

Jon is a Senior Trainer and Consultant with The Potential Project, and in this context he leads workshops, seminars and courses on mindfulness in the workplace for both non- and for-profit organizations. He works with senior leaders and teams to increase focus, attention, effectiveness, empathy and resilience in their busy and "always-on" lives.


Meditation Instruction
Somatic Experiencing®

Working one-on–one is often the only option for people who are either exceptionally busy or home-bound and for whom a class situation is not possible.  The program is customized for the needs of the individual.  These sessions can be done in person or on-line using ZOOM, Skype or Facetime.  Sliding scale pricing applies.

Somatic Experiencing


Somatic Experiencing® is a body based therapy for work specifically with trauma developed by Peter Levine, PhD founder of the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute.  As a certified SEP therapist, Jon works one-to-one using SE® in conjunction with meditation techniques to support individuals in working through the challenges of trauma and PTSD.  This work is most effective when done in conjunction with more traditional therapy.
